87 Torres Altos Ibericos Crianza 2013 Rioja Spain

Jefferson Davis

Not bad at the original price of $16.95 but good value if you can find a bottle at the bin end price of $11.90. I picked one up in Toronto last month. Tart red berry amid spice, meatiness and moderate tannin. Good flavour depth with ripeness and acidity mingling well. Nothing remarkable but solid, easy drinking Rioja. LCB0 $16.95 ($11.90 sale)

89 Palacios Remondo 2011 La Montesa Rioja

Jefferson Davis

A flavourful and nicely structured Rioja for the money. Impressive red fruit scents amid wood spice and creamy hints. Red fruit flavours are consistent from start to finish with good weight and lively acidity. A fine match for slow roasted meat or grilled vegetables. LCBO Vintages $18.75

Currently reduced in price, this is a fruit-laden and well proportioned red suitable for slow roasted meat and grilled vegetables. Enticing raspberry and black cherry character is supported by wood spice and vanilla accents. Good weight and persistence on the finish. Great value now on sale but worth a look even at the regular $16.95 price. ON Vintages Essentials $14.95
